18 Layers of Glass

Echoes of Norman in Blue was painted with glass enamel on 18 layers of glass. When the layers were complete, they were stacked in a kiln and fired to nearly 1500F, causing the layers to gently melt together into a single solid glass block that is 2.25″ thick.
The inspiration from this piece came from the work of USA artist Norman Zammitt (2031-2007), who lived and worked in Southern California. His work explored how line and color created depth and dimension – the heart of my interests as well.
